New Construction Basement Duct Problem

Hello,

I am the owner of a new custom built home, and have been in the home a few months. I am beginning the process of planning a basement finishing and I was doing a thorough walkthrough/inspection looking for problem areas, etc. In doing so I noticed that where the 90 degree elbows that come out of the first floor registers and between the joists in the basement actually drop ~2 inches below the joist level. These are all of the 8" runs that feed the 1st floor and all four of them have the same issue. The duct is flex, but obviously the elbow is not. There is no way you would be able to attach drywall to the ceiling as is.

Am I crazy to consider this unacceptable? Or would it be reasonable for me to contact my builder and see if he will send the HVAC contractor out to address it? I don't even know if it can be easily fixed.

The only workaround I can think of is to build a soffit when finishing the basement but it just seems ridiculous to me to have to do that. I'd have to run a soffit the entire length of the back wall of the home.

Ufer and Grounding Rods

Hi Guys -

New member here and I wanted to ask a question. I've had some issues with the electric on my new house, let me break it down for better understanding.

1) We had copper running directly to the Ufer without any issues. Someone came and stole the copper so it failed the first inspection.

2) They ran 2 grounding rods (since a direct connection to the Ufer couldn't be made) and the inspector failed it again. He said it needed to go to the Ufer.

3) They removed the grounding rods and spliced together two pieces of copper to the Ufer. The inspection passed.

4) Our 3rd party inspector said he recommended adding one continues piece of copper to the two grounding rods. He then recommend that we splice the copper from the Ufer to the first grounding rod.

5) Please check out the pictures and let me know if this is sufficient and safe.

Losing Outlets - Open Neutral

I've been in my house 10 years. During a new flooring project, I moved the refrigerator (and everything else into the garage). The refrigerator worked fine for two weeks, then the outlet stopped working. I have an electrical tester and it said open neutral. The next week, the outside outlet stopped working, and it said open neutral. Then the bathroom outlets stopped working and all three say open neutral now. Most of the outlets that stopped working are GFCI. What could be going on and how to fix it? Yes, I tried resetting all of the outlets.
